I’ve been gone for a while. This I know. Frankly, I was tired, busy, and, to a certain extent, unmotivated to write about politics. We’d won and, as I said, that ought to have allowed some of us to take a breather of some length. Alas, it seems that events will not make such allowances.
I’m speaking, of course, of the whole of the “Valerie Plame” fiasco. Long-time readers will already know what I think of the character of Ms. Plame and Mr. Wilson, as well as my opinion of the merits of their claims. Suffice it to say it was, and remains, my belief that if anyone ought to be in legal jeopardy here, it ought to be those two. The real story of the Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame incident is how certain rogue leftist elements within the Central Intelligence Agency and other elements of the American foreign policy establishment sought to undermine and oppose the policies of the nation’s elected leader. The real story of Plamegate is one about a leftist infiltrator within the CIA who (unethically at the very least) dispatched her unqualified husband in an effort to bury intelligence which didn’t suit the agenda of her and her allies. It’s the story of how a glory-hound husband recklessly exposed the wife whose privacy he claims to value beyond all else by spitting out lies and distortions in a national newspaper.
As I’ve said many times before, whoever did “out” Plame ought to get a medal for their gallant service to the United States in exposing the work of an obvious subversive operating within the government of the United States. Alas, what I think ought to happen and what typically does happen are, quite sadly, very different things.
We don’t yet know what will happen, but we’ve now good a good picture as to the shape of things.
First, it does not seem that Rove or Libby are going to be charged with the “outing” itself.
Second, if they are to be indicted, it seems likely that they will be indicted for some “crime” allegedly committed during the investigation of a non-crime. Perjury, obstruction of justice, lying to Federal officials, etc. It’s exactly the same thing that happened to Martha Stewart.
Third, it’s clear that this is the opening of a general offensive by the Democratic Party and their co-conspirators in the media and the judiciary. I expect them to, in the event of indictments, first attempt to force the resignation of Vice President Cheney and, second, to attempt to remove President Bush from office – perhaps with a target date of January 2007 for the final removal.
This is a serious matter. The Democratic Party was, long ago, captured by the forces of treason. Under the leadership of individuals who believe that all enemies of the United States are angelic creatures, the greatest moments in modern history are the American “defeat” in Vietnam and Watergate. Ever since then, they’ve obsessively been trying to recreate both.
Like Humbert Humbert in Lolita, the Democrats’ minds were frozen in those days of their youth and, ever since then, they’ve been trying to recaptured the lost euphoria and joy of those days. And, like Mr. Humbert, they are capable of sowing massive destruction in their perverse and obsessive quest.
They wish to destroy this President, as they did Nixon. They wish to see America defeated, as we were in Vietnam. In adopting these aims the Democrat-media complex have shown themselves to be nothing less than enemies of the United States.
What is stopping them? Less than we’d like to admit. They did it last time, and it’s more than possible that they may do it again. Certainly, at this point in time they are on the offensive and we are in retreat. Already there are certain Republicans ready to buckle under the onslaught of the enemy.
There’s an important thing we have to keep in mind here: our forces are incapable of enduring the kind of siege that was laid upon the Clinton Administration during the 1998-1999. Unlike the Democrats, we don’t have a sympathetic media to minimize wrongdoing, assault the inquisitors, and create an image of victimhood. Additionally, unlike the Democrats, Republicans are not nearly so cohesive or willing to get their hands dirty in the service of the cause. I have little doubt that the alleged Republicans who classify themselves as “moderates” will, under the right conditions, abandon this President. Some of the President’s more difficult supporters are already, for a variety of reasons, practically eager to abandon him.
But I, for one, will not abandon this President. Nor, I hope will any loyal Republican or lover of America. George W. Bush is a great man and a man who I admire a great deal. But there is more at stake here than merely the political fate of George Walker Bush.
At stake is the future of the United States and of America’s glorious cause overseas. Endangered is the future of Western Civilization, already fading in its European motherland, of which the United States remains the last, best, hope.
The only viable solution here is to take the fight to the enemy – to launch an offensive designed to make use of rapid and overwhelming force to grind the bastards into the dirt. Only a battle with no quarter asked for or received can offer us the salvation that we must now seek.
It goes without saying that any prosecution of Rove or Libby would be malicious and vindictive. But that doesn’t mean that it will not happen. We need to shake ourselves out of our complacency and to gird ourselves for war.
If any Administration official is indicted, President Bush should pardon them and then go on national television. He should go on television and then tell the American people the real truth (shaded as necessary) of the left’s treasonous goals and designs. He should tell the people about how Joe Wilson is an inveterate liar whose distortions have been exposed at length.
If the time has come to declare war against the enemy at home, so be it. It’s time that we tell the American people the truth about seventy years of treason on the part of certain elements of the Democrat Party – and of the thirty-five years since the forces of treason took national control of the Democrat Party.
Now is the time to suit up and prepare for battle. I don’t know what is coming. But I know what I shall do.
We are now engaged in a great struggle for the future of our civilization. If we lose – if we allow this great man to fall at the hands of traitors and opportunists – it will raise the curtain upon the era of the decline and defeat of American, and indeed Western, civilization. We must win this battle, whatever the cost may be.
I shall write again soon.
